Activity Overview
This investigation is from Lesson 4.3: Lines in Motion from Chapter 4: Functions, Relations, and Transformations. Students will see how equations of lines change as the lines are translated.
Before the Activity
Review the Teacher Resources and Calculator Note PDF files.
Make copies of the Student Activity PDF file for your class
During the Activity
Students will:
Review linear equations
Describe translations of a line in terms of horizontal and vertical shifts
Write the equation of a translated line using h and k
Understand point-slope form as a translation of the line with its equation written in intercept form
Apply translations to functions
Directions:
Distribute the student activity sheets
Follow the procedures as outlined
After the Activity
As a class, review student answers, discussing questions that appeared to be more challenging, and re-teaching as needed.
