Rational Functions

Activity Overview

This TI InterActive!™ activity is an algebra test which examines the student's understanding of Rational Functions.

Before the Activity

  • Install the TI InterActive!™ on the computer
  • Print pages from the attached file for the class
  • During the Activity

Distribute the printed pages to the class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:

  • List the vertical and horizontal asymptotes for the given rational functions
  • Determine the type of asymptote of a given rational function
  • Understand that a function can be expressed in different forms
  • Decide which form of a function would be easier to plot when graphing the function manually
  • Find the end-behavior of a function and list both ends
  • Observe given graphs and decide which one represents the listed function
  • Graph the given rational functions and label the intercepts, asymptotes, and the points where the graph cuts the asymptotes
  • After the Activity

    Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
