NCSS: Assessing Personal Finance

Activity Overview

This activity assesses student knowledge and understanding of personal finance. Additionally, this lesson has students analyze and apply the knowledge acquired. This assessment includes 8 brief responses/questions and 2 fill-in-the-blank questions.

Print the appropriate pages from the Activity for your class.

Install the LearningCheck™ App on the students' graphing calculators following the attached instructions.

Using Student Data Sheets: Background Information, Vocabulary, and the activity sheets, conduct a class review. Remind students that they may use their worksheets and vocabulary notes on the assessment.

During the Activity

  • Distribute the appropriate pages from the Activity to your class

  • Students will:
  • Determine monthly gross and net income from various jobs.
  • Calculate the cost of a home at various mortgage rates.
  • Calculate the cost of car payments over various time periods.
  • Create a personal budget after evaluating data.
  • Validate comprehension of personal finance and budgets.
