Activity Overview
Students are introduced to the terms narrative, personal narrative, and chronological order. Using a set of criteria included in this activity, the teacher leads the class in analyzing the narrative form exemplified in a well-known video work.
Before the Activity

Print the appropriate pages from the Activity for your class.
Install the NoteFolio(tm) Apps on the students' graphing calculators following the attached instructions.
Select and obtain the narrative video to use in this activity. Set up the VCR and television set. Prepare a transparency of the Narrative Form Graphic Organizer.
During the Activity
Distribute the appropriate pages from the Activity to your class
Distribute the NoteFolio(tm) file(s) to your class using TI Connect(tm) and the appropriate TI Connectivity cable
Follow the procedures outlined in the Activity
Students will:
Comprehend the terms narrative, personal narrative, and chronological order.
Analyze a short story to better comprehend the narrative form.
Develop their own personal narratives.
Identify and evaluate narrative form in professional models and peer writing.
After the Activity
Before the end of class, review the analysis procedure and ask for any questions the students may have. Be sure the students understand the concepts as well as use of the NoteFolio(tm) Application on their devices. You may want to tell the class that they will be using this same procedure in the next activity of this lesson.
