Falling Down Activity - Math and Science in Motion

Activity Overview

This activity serves as a follow-up to Activity 12 in the Explorations book, Math and Science in Motion: Activities for Middle School by Chris Brueningsen, Elisa Brueningsen, and Bill Bower (Texas Instruments Incorporated, 1997).

Before the Activity

If you are using the TI-Navigator System with the TI-73 you will need the attached .pdf file.
In this activity, students demonstrate their understanding of the position and average speed of a falling coffee filter. Have students complete Activity 12 from the EXPLORATIONS book first.

During the Activity

The attached LearningCheck™ appvar and resource files extend concepts from the activity above. These files can be sent to your class using TI-Navigator.

After the Activity

Review student answers:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
