Ingenuity Takes Flight

Activity Overview

Students learn about and explore  physics concepts and calculations regarding Ingenuity, NASA's tiny helicopter.

About the Lesson

April 2021 marked the first time in history that an object built on Earth made a powered, controlled flight on another planet. The tiny NASA-built helicopter Ingenuity took off from aptly named “Wright Brothers Field.” This event provided teachers with a great opportunity to explore topics well within the high school, and even middle school, curriculum and apply them through such a timely and exciting experience.
