Where in the World is...

Activity Overview

The distances from North Carolina to the different locations of TCubed conferences were measured using Google Earth. The students will make a scatter-plot of the data to compare miles and kilometers. They will manually fit a line to the data and then determine the linear regression.

Before the Activity

Load the tns file Where in the World is.... on each students handheld.

Copy the student worksheet one copy per student.

During the Activity

After the students open the document, have them save it with a different name so that you can use the file again.

After the Activity

If students have access to the internet, they can go to Google Earth, measure the distance between two cities of their choice and create their own problems to exchange with classmates.
