Activity Overview
In this activity, you will use transformations to explore the odd and even properties of functions. Through the activity, transformation rules will be created and various functions will be looked at for odd or even symmetry.
Before the Activity
Students can develop the tranformation rules for reflection over the y-axis and also for a reflection in the origin.
During the Activity
Have students modify functions by restricting the domains. Screen capture the images to see if they restricted correctly. Discuss the differences.
After the Activity
Using LearningCheck Creator, save the file odd_even.edc as a calculator file (.8xv). Send it to your students using TI-Navigator or TI-Connect and Unit-to-Unit cables. Have students answer questions to determine their understanding of the topic.
