Homework Check

Activity Overview

This activity allows the teacher to gather information about homework questions using Quick Poll on the TI-Navigator™.

Before the Activity

Students should have access to either the TI-83 or TI-84 family of calculators.

During the Activity

At the beginning of class, have students respond to a quick poll as to the problem numbers they would like to see worked out on the board.
Take the top five (or as many as the teacher deems appropriate) problems requested and the teacher will work out these problems in detail on the board.
Have students volunteer to work out the remaining problems on the board for the class to review.
At the end of the class as students are working practice problems or beginning work on their homework assignment, take a quick poll for the answer to a specific problem number. Review with the class the correct answer and use error analysis procedures in small groups to determine where the incorrect responses were at fault.

After the Activity

Optional Journal Entry: Have students write in complete sentences the steps in correctly solving the problem. Then have students include warnings as to where mistakes are made in incorrectly solving the problem.
