Activity Overview
Students learn to estimate the solution set, in real numbers, of a linear inequality using graphical methods on a number line and on a Cartesian (x-y) graph. They also learn how to solve inequalities using tables.
Before the Activity

During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Draw the number line graph for each inequality
In the activity Build the Solution Set!, select the correct solution for x from the four options given
Use the number line to estimate the solution set of the given inequalities
Use the table of the expression to estimate the solution for the inequality and then use number sense to determine the exact answer
Find the solution of inequalities using x-y graphs
Solve additional problems
After the Activity
Students will complete the Student Worksheet and analyze the results.
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
