Activity Overview
This activity gives students a set of data to perform a regression analysis. Students need to be able to read the data, perform a regression, and interpolate and extrapolate information.
Before the Activity
Review with students how to perform a linear regression on the graphing calculator. Make certain student know how to obtain a scatter plot and graph the line of best fit. Students also need to be able to assign lists to L1 and L2.
During the Activity
Send students the file Bacterial Growth.edc as well as time and pop lists. Students will then complete the LearningCheck™ activity by using the data provided.
After the Activity
Have students try various types of regressions on the data. Have them take a look at how well the regression curve fits the data as well as the regression coefficient, to determine which model is best.
