Students will test a claim about the standard deviation by comparing the χ2 value to the critical value.
After a review of the chi-square distribution and the chi-square value, students are led through an example, step-by-step, to test a claim about standard deviation.
Students will determine the null and alternative hypothesis, calculate the chi-square value and critical value, and graph the chi-square distribution to see the critical region. Multiple choice questions are used on the worksheet to allow students to evaluate their progress and understanding of the steps of the problem.
Discuss the material from the activity pages with students as needed.
