CSI in the Operating Room

Activity Overview

Biochemically, there are two ways of analyzing substances: qualitatively and quantitatively. In this activity, quantitative analysis is used to determine the concentration of anesthesia administered (represented by green food coloring). Spectrophotometry is a common quantitative method of determining sample concentrations. A tool that can be used with the calculator is called a Colorimeter.

Before the Activity

Prep the samples needed for analysis. Make sure that the calculators that will be used in the experiment have EasyData installed.

During the Activity

Have students follow the procedure outlines in the attached document. Monitor their progress.
