Exploring the Distance Formula with the TI-Navigator

Activity Overview

This exploration uses the Activity Center to explore the relationship between the between the Pythagorean Theorem and the Distance Formula. Students use cardinal directions and individualized cursors to go to two specific points on the coordinate plane. Students then create a rise/run triangle and use the Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the distance between the two points. The goal is for students to use the Pythagorean Theorem to derive the Distance Formula in terms of rise and run.
