Activity Overview
Students, working in small groups, will borrow lyrics from their favorite songs to create pantoums that will be presented to an audience.
Before the Activity

Print the appropriate pages from the Activity for your class.
Install the LearningCheck(tm) and NoteFolio(tm) Apps on the students' graphing calculators following the attached instructions.
Review with the class what the homework assignment was. Also review the basic structure of a 16-line, four-stanza pantoum.
During the Activity
Distribute the appropriate pages from the Activity to your class
Distribute the LearningCheck(tm) and NoteFolio(tm) file(s) to your class using TI Connect(tm) and the appropriate TI Connectivity cable
Follow the procedures outlined in the Activity
Students will:
Identify the defining features and structures of literary texts.
Choose words purposefully and evaluate the use of words in communications designed to inform, explain, and persuade.
Evaluate how audience and context affect the selection and use of words and phrases, including technical terms, slang, and jargon.
Perform expressive oral readings of prose, poetry, and drama.
After the Activity
While one student types the final version of the pantoum on a device, the other three students can be orchestrating the group reading of the pantoum. The typist shares the completed pantoum with other group members using the unit-to-unit cable.
