In this lesson, students will manipulate the slope of the surface over which the water is flowing to show varying rates of erosion and deposition.
- Students will recognize the difference between erosion and deposition.
- Students will understand the relationship between the slope of a watershed and the rates of runoff, erosion, and deposition.
- flow rate
About the Lesson
In this lesson, students will manipulate the slope of the surface over which the water is flowing to show varying rates of erosion and deposition. A guided lesson video (optional) is also available for this activity. The video is targeted at students and designed to help guide them through the interactive exploration and the concepts covered within. (It may also be helpful for teachers who may be using the activity for the first time.)
**Note: Students should use the TI-Nspire computer software or TI-Nspire™ Apps for iPad® for an optimal experience with this lesson.
As as result, students will have a better understanding of:
- how slope affects flow rate.
- how flow rate affects erosion and deposition in a stream.
