daVinci's Proportions

Activity Overview

This activity is designed to help students work with linear regression models, error, correlation coefficients and coefficients of determination.
In this activity students measure different body parts and then use them to determine if Leonardo daVinci is correct in his formulas for the relationship between the body parts.
In this activity students not only deal with the mathematical concepts of regression but also with the difference between the theoretical models and the experimental models.

Before the Activity

Please see attached lesson plan for more details about this lesson.

After the Activity

The attached project description is a project I have used for several years.
I think you will find it very interesting and the kids learn a lot from it.
It invokes a lot of classroom discussion and brings up a lot of important issues around linear regression and modeling.
