Students use a nomograph, or type of function machine, to determine the rule of several functions by entering values of x and observing how the value of y changes.
Students use a nomograph, or type of function machine, to determine the rule of several functions by entering values of x and observing how the value of y changes. They will also investigate a function that is undefined for a value of x.
This nomograph (What'sMyRule2) follows a quadratic rule. Students are guided through the same steps to determine the rule. Encourage students to record several of the ordered pairs they observed on their worksheets. This will help them in determining the function’s rule.
Then, students will be able to create their own nomographs by entering a function to determine the rule.
