Activity Overview
Students explore map making. Students read a story, identify the locations of different places in the story, decide the distance between each set of places in the story, and create a map with a legend.
Before the Activity

During the Activity
Distribute the page to the class.
Follow the activity procedures:
Select as book or story in which characters move from place to place and read it
Create an imaginary map of the action in the story
Create a legend with a scale for distances
Identify at least three different locations from the story, determine the distances between those
places on the map
After the Activity
Review student results
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
