Activity Overview

Students interpret data tables and graphs. They find percentages and create circle graphs to display data.

Print pages 82 - 93 from the attached PDF file for your class

During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

Follow the activity procedures:

Analyze the tabulated data and the bar graphs, and answer the questions pertaining to them

Find the percent of passengers in each class [including crew] on the Titanic when it set sail

Calculate the percent of total survivors in each class of passengers [including crew]

Use the information to create circle graphs and display the percent of the Titanic passengers by class on the ship before and after the accident

Determine whether the circle graphs are misleading (together or separately)

Answer questions based on the information in the graphs

After the Activity

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
