Solving Problems Using Trigonometry
Solving real life problem using trig ratios.
Example: Finding the angle of elevation or the angle of depression. Finding the angle between two lines. Finding equation of a line that passes through two points.
Start the class by reviewing trig ratios. Draw a right Triangle on the board with sides 6, 8, and 10.
Open TI-Navigator™ and start the class.
Using multiple answers A through E, from quick poll ask students questions about the trig ratios of the sides of the triangle drawn.
After this warm up, give out: Solving Problems Using Trigonometry.doc handout.
Open the Activity Center and from the file menu, load the Pisa Tower Activity.act file.
Follow the instructions to find the angle of the leaning Tower with the ground.
Next, load the CN Tower Activity.act file.
Follow the instructions to find the angle of depression when a person is standing on the Space Deck of the CN Tower or the lower observation Deck.
Then, load the LightHouse Activity.act file and follow the instructions to find the angle of elevation of the foot and the top of the LightHouse.
