Introduction to CAS. Adding polynomials, solving equations, factoring trinomials, expanding

Activity Overview

This series of activities provides an introduction to some Algebra concelpts using CAS. The activities start with Algebra tiles and CAS. Patterning is modelled for the students so that they can construct the knowledge rather than be given a set of rules. The activities look at adding and subtracting polynomials, solving equations, factoring trinolials, and expanding a binomial x a binomial.

Before the Activity

TAs a pre-activity, students should be asked to recall all of their algebra knowledge to date by completing a mind map

During the Activity

In this series of activities students will be provided with an introduction to some Algebra concelpts using CAS. The activities start with Algebra tiles and CAS.

After the Activity

Once the activity is completed, the students can be given questions where they need to factor a trinomial, or expand expressions
