Introducing Families of Functions
Introducing Families of Functions
Students will be able to identify important characteristics of specific function families. This activity focuses on linear and quadratic functions, but can be easily adapted to work with any family.
Students need to be familar with logging in to the TI Navigator system and evaluating functions. As students enter the room, hand out "identity" cards which will assign them a unique x value for the duration of the activity.
Students are to log into Navnet at the beginning of class. The students will record the function as stated by the teacher, calculate the function value for their assigned x value. Next students will submit the ordered pair in the Activity Center. After the class graph is created students will sketch a graph on the worksheet.
After several particular functions are examined, students will answer questions via Learning Check/Quick Poll to analyze specifics about that family of functions.
