Integration - Advanced Placement

Activity Overview

In this activity, students learn and explore two types of integrals: Indefinite and Definite.

Before the Activity

  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 33 - 37 from the attached PDF file for your class
  • During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:
    Indefinite Integral:

  • Enter the integral and integrate
  • Obtain solution with constant 'c'

  • Definite Integral:
  • Enter the function and graph it
  • Enter the upper and lower limits and evaluate the definite integral
  • Compute the area under the curve of the graph of the function

  • An integral Formula:
  • Enter the function and integrate with undeclared variables in the limits

  • Symbolic Limits in a Definite Integral:
  • Use the integrate command and evaluate the definite integral
  • After the Activity

Students will complete the practice exercise problems.

    Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
