Activity Overview

Students will sort data and construct stemplots, dotplots, histrograms, and frequency plots.

Before the Activity

Install the Statistics with List Editor application on the calculator using one of these two methods:

  • TI Connect™, a TI Connectivity Cable, and the Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
  • TI-Navigator™ "send to class" feature
  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity

Follow the Activity procedures:

  • Create lists containing the years tall buildings in Philadelphia, Seattle, and New York City were constructed
  • Sort the lists in ascending order
  • Use the sorted values to generate stemplots
  • Construct dotplots, histograms, relative frequency histograms, and frequency plots using the data in the lists

After the Activity

Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
