Conics in Geometry

Activity Overview

This lesson has students construct 3 conic sections through geometric definitions. Using the CABRI™ Geometry II application for the TI-89, students construct a parabola, an ellipse, and a hyperbola. (Topics - geometric shapes.

Before the Activity

Students should have access to the TI-89/TI-89 Titanium.

During the Activity

Students will use the TI-89 and CABRI geometry to investigate and verify parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas.

After the Activity

Review student results:

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
