The Pythagorean Theorem—and More

Activity Overview

Students construct a triangle and find all angle and side measures. They practice dragging the vertices to form certain types of triangles, and then they confirm the Pythagorean Theorem for right triangles. Moreover, they discover the types of triangle that occur when c2 < a2 + b2 or when c2 > a2 + b2.

Key Steps

  • Image

On page 1.2, students will construct triangle ABC by selecting MENU > Shapes > Triangle and clicking on the screen where they want the vertices. They can label the vertices while constructing the triangle by entering a point’s label directly after placing the point. (If they wish the labels to be capital letters, they will need to place the point and press CAPS before typing the letter.)
