Activity Overview
In this activity, students use the CellSheet™ Application to understand how to track inventory and predict future trends based on average daily use. They will collect data, analyze it and make predictions. They also learn to use linear regression model to predict future trends.
Before the Activity
- Install CellSheet™ on the calculator using TI Connect™, TI-Connectivity cable, and Unit to Unit cables
- See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
- Print pages 35 - 42 from the attached PDF file for your class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to your class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Open the CellSheet Application on the calculator and start a new spreadsheet
Enter the daily inventory of a specified item for the past several days
Find the average number of items used per day and the projected starting inventory for each day
Identify the day when the starting inventory level is below the reserve quantity
Graph the day versus inventory data to find the linear equation
Calculate the slope, this value represents the number of items used per day
Find the equation of the line
Solve the equation and identify the day when the inventory will reach the reserve quantity
Compare both methods of prediction
Use your new skill to solve more problems on the CellSheet Application
After the Activity
Students will complete the worksheet and answer questions.
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
