This activity gives students an opportunity to focus on the use of the table in the calculator to work with patterns, inputs and outputs. These questions are often present in standardized test and a can begin with the pattern and find the table of values or begin with the table of values to find the pattern. Both are represented in the activity.
Before the Activity
Introduce students to the use of the table with Auto setting.
During the Activity
Lead the student discussion to emphasize that the same strategy can be used for tables and patterns for questions beginning with the pattern or those beginning with table or list of values.
After the Activity
Continue to use the strategy to check answers on non-multiple choice questions when appropriate.
