Match Me! Activity - Math and Science in Motion

Activity Overview

This activity serves as a follow-up to Activity 2 in the Explorations book, Math and Science in Motion: Activities for Middle School by Chris Brueningsen, Elisa Brueningsen, and Bill Bower (Texas Instruments Incorporated, 1997).

Before the Activity

In this activity, students demonstrate their understanding of piece-wise linear graphs as they relate to the Distance-Time graphs from the CBR(TM). Their understanding of slope, y-intercept, and frame of reference will be revealed.

Have students complete Activity 2 from the EXPLORATIONS book first.

During the Activity

The attached LearningCheck™ appvar extends concepts from the activity above. This LearningCheck appvar can be sent to your class using TI-Navigator.

After the Activity

Review student answers:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
  • If you are using TI-Navigator™, you can use the "slideshow" feature to have a class discussion about the quiz.
