Activity Overview

Students will collect room temperatures with temperature probes and graphing calculators, and plot data to generalize rule that relates Fahrenheit and Celsius units.

Key Steps

The technology used for this activity gives great results comparing Celsius and Fahrenheit. The activity is also an excellent way to reinforce conversion of units and the concept of dependent/independent variables.
Students use the Manual Fit feature to place a line of best fit to match the data. Then the students use the equation to predict other temperatures.
