Activity Overview
In this activity, students use the Rational Number Rampage application to play a game and explore fractions, decimals, and percents. They are shown a hundred square grid with different number of squares colored and are required to determine the fraction, decimal, or percent of the grid that is colored.
Before the Activity
Install the Rational Number Rampage App application on the calculator using the
TI Connect™
, TI Connectivity Cable, and Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
Set up the calculator as explained in the appendix file
See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
Print the pages from the attached PDF file for the class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Start the application and select the appropriate level of difficulty
Calculate the number of colored squares on the hundred-square grid and determine the fraction, percent, or decimal portion of the grid that is colored
A wrong answer allows the students a second try with half the points
The object of the game is to get the highest score possible
After the Activity
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
