Complex Numbers: Plotting and Polar Form

Activity Overview

This activity is designed for students who have had prior experience with complex numbers. They first refresh their memories of basic operations with complex numbers. Students then learn to plot complex numbers. Students learn the basics of writing complex numbers in their polar forms and comparing them to their rectangular form. Finally, students plot complex numbers in polar form by entering their modulus and arguments into a spreadsheet linked to a Graphs & Geometry page.

Before the Activity

Teacher must transfer the .tns file to student handhelds before activity.

During the Activity

Teacher should circulate to answer any questions that arise.

After the Activity

Summarize key concepts of modulus and argument with the class.
