Activity Overview

This activity focuses on the properties of special quadrilaterals.

Before the Activity

  • Install the Cabri Jr. App on the students' graphing calculators using TI-Connect™, a TI Connectivity Cable and the Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 141 - 142 from the attached PDF file for your class

    • During the Activity

    Distribute the pages to your class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:

  • Construct a quadrilateral, a kilte, a trapezoid, an isosceles trapezoid, a parallelogram, a rhombus, a rectangle, and a square
  • Use various construction and measurement tools to investigate the properties of the special quadrilaterals
  • Construct the quadrilaterals again, this time using properties observed that are different from the properties of minimal definitions
  • Drag the vertices and sides of the quadrilaterals constructed to ensure that they retain the properties used to construct them

    • After the Activity

    Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
