Students are introduced to key concepts of the Cartesian plane by moving a point and investigating its coordinates in different quadrants and on the axes.
Students place and label points P and Q anywhere in the coordinate system. Then, they label the coordinates of each point.
Next, students point P to the x-axis and point Q to the y axis.
Students use the Perpendicular tool to construct perpendiculars through point P to each axis.
They then measure the length of each segment using the Length tool from the Measurement menu.
