Pop the Balloon

Activity Overview

Students use the TI-Navigator Activity Center to submit equations of the form y = mx to shoot down a balloon. Several activity files are provided that position the balloon at different places in the sky. The supplied activity files all use the origin as ?beginning? point. The activity is easily extended to having students work with the slope-intercept form of the linear equation by moving the starting point away from the origin.

Before the Activity

Students have been introduced to linear equations of the form y = mx.

During the Activity

Follow instructions in the attached documents.

After the Activity

Have students discuss how the y value changes with different values for slope. Connect the term 'slope' to 'rate of change'.
