Activity Overview
This activity encourages students to gain experience with the language of the Cartesian coordinate system. Each of the problems shows two points, z and w. Point z can be dragged, and point w moves in response. In describing the rule that governs the location of point w, students will most likely use language involving the coordinates. Depending on the background of the students, these problems can also allow students to use the language of symmetry or to make connections with complex numbers.
Before the Activity
Download the attached PDF and look over the information on the first two pages. Download and distribute the attached .tns file for use during the activity.
During the Activity
Discuss the material from the activity pages with students as needed.
After the Activity
Encourage students to summarize what they have learned from completing the activity.
