Activity Overview
Students will use Cabri Jr. to construct a parallelogram. They discover three properties of parallelograms in this activity: opposite sides are congruent, opposites angles are congruent, and diagonals bisect each other.
Before the Activity
Students should be familiar with Cabri Jr. The parallelogram should be constructed by drawing a segment, and making a line parallel to it, then another segment attached to the first and making a line parallel to that. Draw segments over the parallel lines and hide the lines so that only a parallelogram remains.
The students will have to know how to measure segments and angles in order to complete this activity.
During the Activity
The teacher should assist students as needed with the activity. A student working with an overhead calculator my be helpful for students who are having difficulty working through the activity.
After the Activity
Verify the students conjectures by haviang selected students share their findings with the class.
