Activity Overview

Describes how to use the TI-89 to solve Laplace's equation for two-dimensional electrostatic problems. The separation of variables method provides exact solutions but is restricted to specific geometries. The relaxation method is applicable to any geometry, but it provides only an approximate solution. This chapter uses the function lap() which is defined in Chapter 10: Vector Calculus.
