Activity Overview
This activity focuses on strengthening student understanding of connections among graphical, tabular, and algebraic representations of simple linear functions. They enter a simple program that allows them to determine the equations for lines, in the form Y = AX + B, based on tabular and graphical information.
Before the Activity
See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
Print pages 107 - 112 from the attached PDF file for your class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Run the LINE program
Examine the table of values of the expression AX + B for different integer values of X
Study a graph of the ordered pairs satisfying the equation Y = AX + B
Guess the values of A and B and check whether they are correct
Run the program and select 2 random integer values for A and B
View the entry placed by the program in the graph menu or view a table of values of ordered pairs
Observe the graph of Y = AX + B and make a guess for the values of A and B
Compare the results of the two guesses
After the Activity
Students complete the Questions sheet.
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
