Students graph box plots on the same axes comparing shape, spread, and the five-number summary.
Students are given two real world data sets to compare. By changing the vertical and horizontal axes, they will use histograms side-by-side to compare the data sets graphically.
Then students will use box plots to compare the same data sets and draw conclusions in the context of the data. They also will learn the how an outlier effects the box plot.
