In this activity, students learn to calculate the area of geometric shapes. They solve real world problems involving area.
Before the Activity
Install the Area Formula App application on the calculator using the
TI Connect™
, TI Connectivity Cable, and Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
Set up the calculator as explained in the appendix

Print the pages from the attached PDF file for the class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Determine the area of the plot and the cost of the plot
Calculate the square feet of tile required to tile the shaded area
Select the triangle option on the application to find the definition and formula for area of a triangle
Calculate the area of the shaded portion using the formula
Find the area of other shapes
After the Activity
Review student results:
As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
