Activity Overview
Students will be introduced to the Central Limit Theorem by letting them explore sample distributions. By changing sample size, they observe the effect on distributions of sample means. First, students investigate the idea of a random sample. Second, they look at histograms made from sample means of various sizes. Finally, students use a slider to control the sample size, and watch the shape of the sampling distribution change as the size of the sample changes.
Before the Activity
Download the attached PDF and look over the information on the first page. Download and distribute the attached student TI-Nspire document (.tns file) for use during the activity.
During the Activity
Discuss the material from the activity pages with students as needed.
After the Activity
Encourage students to summarize what they have learned from completing the activity.
