Parametric Equations and Graph Data Bases

Activity Overview

Parametric equations are equations that express the coordinates x and y as separate functions of a common third variable, called the parameter. You can use parametric equations to determine the position of an object over time.

Before the Activity

Set up a Graph Database as described in the attached document. This will need to be sent to the students (can be done with TI-Navigator™).

Also review the attached document for procedures.

During the Activity

Have students graph the parametric equations that model the situation. Engage students in discussions about what each point on the graph represents.

After the Activity

To close the activity, send another GDB that has the original factory settings so the students can resume function graphing.
