Students plot points then use regression lines to design a vehicle.
Before the Activity
Each student is given a graph with a tracing of a vehicle profile. Each student should select a point on the vehicle.
During the Activity
In TI-Navigator™, each student submits one point on the graph. Discuss.
The teacher will then send back the points as a list. Each student or small group of students will be assigned an interval to perform a regression. Teacher should then configure equations and students each send the equation of the curve.
After the Activity
Display the activity center of all the curves. Discuss how a student could eliminate the unwanted portions by using piecewise functions. Students should then graph their own car.
