Activity Overview
This activity is based on the Numb3rs season 3 episode, "Traffic" which involves the use of the Pythagorean Theorem. Students will investigate how the relationship between A^2 + B^2 and C^2 is affected by the measurement of angle C.
Before the Activity
Students should be familiar with using the select feature to grab and move a figure on the TI-Nspire handheld.
During the Activity
Students use the graphing handheld to investigate the relationship between A^2+B^2 and C^2 and the measurement of angle C. Students also determine the types of triangles when given side lengths, as well as solve an application problem involving the Pythagorean Theorem.
After the Activity
Engage in class discussion to monitor student understanding. Reteach concepts as necessary.
