This activity serves as an introduction to the equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. The teacher will submit a linear equation and students will submit equations to lines that are either parallel or perpendicular to the given line. Students will analyze the equations submitted and write their own conclusions about the slopes of parallel lines and perpendicular lines.
Before the Activity
- Start TI-Navigator and begin class.
- Choose Activity Center
- Have students login to NAVNET, from the menu displayed, they should choose Activity Center and wait for teacher.
- Load the file ParallelPerpendicularSettings.act in Activity Center.
During the Activity
Teacher will enter equations with a calculator so students cannot see which equation was entered. Teacher’s input is masked.
After the Activity
Have one student submit a line and then have the rest of the class submit a line that is either parallel or perpendicular to the student’s line.
