In this activity, students will use a calorimeter to measure the amount of heat needed to melt ice and determine the heat of fusion for ice. EasyData™ is needed for this activity.
Students will start this experiment by placing a temperature probe into 100mL of 30o C water.
Students will then collect temperature data for 5 minutes after placing ice chips into the container of water and then calculate the amount of heat needed to melt 1g of ice.
