Activity Overview

Students find the area and the perimeter for several geometric shapes. They also determine the surface area and volume of spheres.

Print pages 106 - 108 from the attached PDF file for your class

During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

Follow the activity procedures:

Divide an irregular geometric shape into rectangles and right triangles

Calculate the perimeter and area of the shape

Use the calculator to find the length of a missing side, given the measures of other sides in a figure

Repeat the steps for different figures

Use the correct formula to compute the surface area and volume of a sphere

Find the surface area and volume of objects in the solar system

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
