Mad Minutes

Activity Overview

This activity should help kids to perform quick computations using mental math, become less reliant on calculators for computation, and remember algorithms for common math problems by using repetition and practice.

Before the Activity

This activity requires LearningCheck™ Creator Software. To download the software please visit: LearningCheck
These files can be used as a review of basic facts at the beginning of the hour to help Algebra, Geometry, or other math students review basic facts that they are behind on.
I have provided three LearningCheck™ files to get a teacher started who desires to review basic facts on a daily or weekly basis.
More of these activities could certainly be made quickly by a teacher who finds them useful.
Another topic that I suggest, would be finding the percent of a number, formulas for area, formulas for volume, square of a number, square roots of a number, conversion of units, changing decimal to fraction, changing percent to decimal, adding integers, subtracting integers, multiplying and dividing integers, one step equations, evaluating expressions, etc.

I want to thank Marie Lusk from Glimmers for the idea for this activity!

After the Activity

Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
